Urban Design Studio: The Green Superblock

Open spaces are essential for urban quality of life, offering recreation, social interaction, and ecological benefits. Vazha-Pshavela, a large 1960s housing estate in Tbilisi, is characterized by extensive green spaces, but poor maintenance and unresolved property relations have led to neglect and private appropriation.

The studio explores how streets, courtyards, and neighbourhood squares can become inclusive, resilient, and diverse spaces. Students will develop and discuss scenarios during an excursion to Tbilisi together with partner universities and local stakeholders. The results will contribute to the Living Lab “The Green Superblock”.
